About
Building serious things that matter.
I'm Gerald Carter — a builder, advocate, and founder working at the intersection of ethics, data privacy, and equitable technology. I'm not a single-product entrepreneur. I'm a systems thinker whose portfolio of products collectively advances a singular mission: ensuring that technology creates opportunity for everyone, especially underrepresented communities.
The Story
My journey began with a simple observation: the technology industry builds products that shape billions of lives, yet the people most affected by those products are often the least represented in their creation. This isn't just a diversity problem — it's a design problem, a data problem, and fundamentally, an ethics problem.
I started Diversity Photos to address the gap in authentic visual representation. When Adobe trained AI models on that content without authorization, I didn't stay silent — I pursued arbitration to set a precedent for creator rights and data sovereignty. That fight crystallized what I already knew: ethics can't be an afterthought. It has to be the foundation.
Every product I've built since reflects this conviction. Destined AI matches people with opportunities using privacy-first architecture. MemoryNest preserves family legacies with encryption and dignity. PreLabel AI ensures that the humans behind AI training data are treated fairly. Each product is a different expression of the same deeply held values.
Values Framework
These four pillars guide every decision — from product architecture to business strategy to how I engage with the world.
Ethics
Fighting for fair treatment of creators and communities in the age of AI.
Privacy
Building tools that respect and protect user data by design, not as an afterthought.
Data
Demonstrating that data can empower individuals and communities, not just corporations.
Opportunity
Creating platforms that lower barriers and expand access for the historically excluded.

He Tried to Stop Adobe From Training Its AI on His Photo Library — He Lost
Gerald Carter established Diversity Photos to address the historical underrepresentation of minorities in stock photography. When Adobe incorporated his collection into its Firefly AI training datasets, Carter pursued arbitration — but faced financial barriers that he views as a dangerous precedent that could gut creator rights.

AI Is Forcing Middle-Class Creators To Think Like Music Label Executives
Carter and Lowther are building Pre-Label, a platform that allows producers to train AI models on their own unreleased work, generate new compositions, and sell access directly. 'A lot of creators don't even realize what's been taken,' Carter said. It's a move away from reactive protection and toward proactive ownership.

Creators Were Told To Build Online. Now AI Companies Are Saying 'Let Them Eat Cake'
Gerald Carter, founder of Diversity Photos, is one of the clearest examples of how that promise collapsed. Millennials were encouraged to build personal brands because platforms needed content. What AI has exposed is that many platforms were never neutral marketplaces.
